The Interplay of two blocks results in a rich-looking design.


Fabrics Needed to Make this Quilt

The finished quilt measures 42" high by 42" wide.

Note on Yardage Calculations: Since foundation piecing takes more fabric than conventional piecing, I have added an extra 1/8 yard to each fabric to allow for waste.


Blocks needed to Make this Quilt

Print 13 copies of Ohio Star Block #1. Set the finished size to 7" by 7". The Ohio Star block is in the Traditional Blocks folder.

This will be block A

 

Block A

Print 48 copies of Indian Hatchet #3. Set the finished size to 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" The Indian Hatchet block is in the Geometric folder.

You will need to sew the block into a 4 block units as shown. You will need 12 units

The 4 block units will be Block B.

Block B

Print 20 copies of the Nested Square Border. Set the finished size to 7" wide by 3 1/2" high. The Nested Square block is in the Borders folder.

This block will comprise the quilt border.

Piecing Diagrams

Step 1: Print and trim all foundation blocks.

Step 2: Sew the foundation blocks. Click here for instructions on how to sew foundation blocks.

Step 3: Sew the A Blocks to the B Blocks as shown in the diagram.

Step 4: Sew the Nested Square Border Blocks together into 4 strips of 5 blocks each.

 

Step 5: Cut a square 4" x 4" of fabric #3 for the border corners.

Sew the border blocks to the quilt as shown. The quilt top is now complete.
